I had used contractors for remodeling projects in New York and they had always been hair-raising experiences. Workmen wouldn't show up. There would be "surprise" costs added to the budget. The quality ended up so-so. One even abandoned my project before it was finished. So when my sister and I decided to remodel the Gig Harbor home we inherited, I was naturally bracing myself for the worst.

Working with Gary Howe showed me that not all contractors were cut from the same cloth. We've used Howe on two occasions now--first to remodel the kitchen, install hardwood flooring and paint the interior and more recently to remodel the bathroom, makeover the outside entry way, paint the exterior and build a deck out back. He and his guys are simply a joy to work with.

We chose Howe because he favors Northwest styling and natural woods, which suited what we wanted for our remodel. We also liked his creative sense and ability to offer up alternatives. For example, we wanted our kitchen remodel to create more of an open floor plan with the living/dining room, but figured the basic railroad floor plan in the kitchen would have to stay the same. Howe suggested eliminating part of one wall altogether and putting in an L-shaped counter that worked much better with the open format. He also suggested that we could get more room in the kitchen by incorporating the adjacent laundry room into the space and building a laundry "closet" to house a stackable washer/dryer. We went with both suggestions and loved the results.

The quality of Howe's work was top-notch right down to the littlest detail. His team showed up on time, tried to work with your schedule and finished everything on time. Howe kept us updated as the job progressed and on the budget, especially when we made selections on materials that would put us over the budget. We liked that he worked to find savings in some areas so that we afford to add a couple of higher end touches to our remodel.

Howe's whole team was easy-going, upbeat and enthusiastic, making them all fun to work with. You could really tell they were passionate about doing a good job and making the customer happy.
